Looking for a job nowadays is very crucial. Unemployment rate is high and job vacancies are scarce so when an opportunity is right in front of you, make sure to hit it all the way. Remember, time is gold, the country is in crisis and competition of getting a job is very tight.
Commandment number one; though shall be prepared for the job interview. Even before you submit your application letter and resume, you have to be ready because anytime the employer might be contacting you. It doesn’t matter if it is an online face-to-face or phone interview. With the presence of the internet, there is no excuse why you could not know a little background of the company that you’re applying to. Keep in mind that being unprepared in an interview is like going into a field battle with your unloaded gun.
Commandment number two; though shall not be ignorant with his own market value. Knowing how much salary you deserve is very crucial. The first reason why we look for a job is to earn money. You have to have the knowledge on how much people like you would get in the type of industry you are entering. If you do not have knowledge on this you end up pricing too low which employers could take advantage and further exploit your rights or too high which gives employers the reason not to hire you.
Commandment number three; though shall not talk too much during an interview. As much as we want to give all our energy during an interview there are times that talking too much can sabotage us. Only give the interviewer the information that he or she needs – this does not mean that you give a one or two-word answer and this does not also mean that you tell them your whole life story either. Be sure to make statements that you can back up and support whenever they have questions. The more you talk the more loop holes they find and they might put you in a corner where you can no longer defend yourself. So be tactful.
Commandment number four; though shall concentrate during the interview. If your mind-set is not on getting the job or you get too excited and nervous whether you’ll make it or not you will have the tendency to have flight of ideas. Well stop day dreaming and thinking too much. Relax and do some deep breathing before the interview. The key here is to adhere to commandment number one, you have to be prepared. When you’re prepared, the less nervous you become.
Commandment number five; though shall be accountable with all the contents in thy resume. All applicants have at least one loop hole in their resume. Interviewers most of the time, will be asking you questions depending on the information you have given them. To avoid being put to a situation where you can no longer answer, try to go along your resume with a friend. Predict the possible questions that the interviewer will be throwing on you and be prepared with your counter statements. Never feel sorry for the contents in your resume that you think you should’ve not included in it. Try to incorporate them in your story to give your interviewer a better picture of your situation.
Commandment number six; though shall not neglect your social network. Often times, the best sources of job opportunities are referrals from your friends or your friend’s friend. Broadening your social circle can help widen your job search. Be specific and share to them the type of job that you are looking for. Being secretive with your job search is not a good idea.
Commandment number seven; though shall not settle for verbal agreement.Always make sure that all the things that you and the employer have agreed upon are being put into writing. This is to protect you from future disputes. Review carefully the terms and conditions before accepting the job offer. Your employment and career are important as diamonds so protect it with legal measures.
In applying for a job, always be confident that you will get the job. But do not be too confident that you become arrogant. Keep it simple and relax. If it is for you, it will be given to you.
